Built Circa 1810, the Cutty Sark Inn Falmouth (previously the Albion) has been welcoming guest all this time. Traditionally the term Inn was a house providing accommodation, food, and drink, especially but not exclusively for travellers, which we thoroughly agree with, and as we say; Eat Heartily, Drink Merrily, Sleep Soundly…..
An Inn of over 200 years as you would imagine is steeped in history, with a little research we have uncovered a few facts, but we are sure there is more to be discovered. From what does sound like a very peculiar insurance claim. The bar burnt down due to rats, i quote “it is suggested that the fire was caused by a rat setting fire to some matches, some boxes of which were in a draw in the bar”. Reported in the Falmouth packet on December 19th 1874. The incident of the scurrilous gentlemen passing forged money orders for goods and services. Reported in the Falmouth packet on October 10th 1908. Finally the untimely demise of Monsieur Debos a French Consul, who died of apoplexy in one of the rooms, on December 10th 1894. I am sure there is more history to be made but hopefully with less, death, deception and fire!
So if you are ever a traveller in Cornwall and passing Falmouth and need a room to be in. Head to the Cutty Sark Inn Falmouth Grove Place opposite Events Square and the Maritime Museum and try out or hospitality or book online
