Cutty Sark WALL project
Mark and Hanna Martin took over Cutty Sark Inn, Falmouth, in May 2017 and opened in August following extensive renovations. They have been working hard building a great business where locals and visitors can eat heartily, drink merrily and sleep soundly.
The couple are now at a point where they can start looking at some of the projects that were in their original hopes and plans for the business, one of which was to build relationships and work with local artists. Cutty Sark Inn has a lot of wall space and Mark and Hanna would love the opportunity to showcase local talent.
The Project (WALL)
Since moving, Mark and Hanna have loved the view across the estuary, from the industrial, grey ships to pleasure sailing, the bay, the green hills on the other side and the ever-changing weather.
The space and the view
“We would like these images are to inspire artists to create an artwork capturing or illustrating the view from Cutty Sark Inn.” Said Mark. “The space will be broken down in to areas for each artist to create their work.”
The owners are looking for artists to interpret and create an original piece across multiple medias, so ink, water, collage, illustration, textiles, 3D, moving image etc.
The space will be commercial, so pieces can be sold. A nominal 10% commission will be charged and donated to a local charity.
Each piece that is exhibited will be limited to a maximum 3-month period to ensure the project is ever evolving.
The section will be allocated by Mark and Hanna for the artist to interpret in their chosen media.
Artists if they wish can collaborate.
Artists should provide a quick sketch, outline of their proposed piece prior to commencing work.
Although they aren’t looking to curate the space there decision as to whether it will be included is final.
Simply the brief is for artists to create something that they believe represents the space they have been allocated.
